Kathmandu, Nepal – November 2, 2025

A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC), the country's apex court, on Sunday challenging the appointment of Sushila Karki as Prime Minister.

Advocate Punya Prasad Khatiwada filed the petition, demanding the annulment of the appointment. In the writ, the petitioner claims that President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed former Chief Justice Sushila Karki as Prime Minister following the Gen Z Movement, an action he argues is against the constitution.

The petitioner asserts that any person who has served as a former Chief Justice cannot be appointed as Prime Minister under the current constitutional provisions. He further argues that the President has failed to comply with the constitution and that the Nepali Army is also responsible for the current situation.
