Kathmandu, Nepal, October 19, 2021: Bagmati Province government has raised the passenger fare effective from Monday. With the decision, travelers of public buses in the Kathmandu Valley now have to pay Rs. 18, which was previously Rs 15.
The Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development of Bagmati Province has stated that the fare has been increased for the buses that ply on the short route within the province.
As per the revised fare, Rs 18 has been fixed for a distance up to five kilometers, Rs 23 for a distance up to 10 km, Rs 27 for a distance up to 15 km, Rs 30 for a distance up to 20 km and Rs 35 for the distance up to 20 km.
Likewise, the Bagmati provincial government has also hiked the passenger vehicle fare in the locations outside the valley by 23 percent.
The deluxe transports offering luxury services can charge 20 percent in excess of the rates fixed by the authority for normal bus services, the Bagmati provincial government has stated.
The Bagmati provincial government has made the decision responding to the strike of the transportation operators.
The operators of short-distance public transport had been staging protests demanding a hike in transport fares.
