Kathmandu, Nepal: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), a ruling ally of the incumbent government, has on Sunday registered a Constitution amendment bill at the Parliament demanding Hindu state by removing secularism from the constitution.
RPP lawmakers-- Bikram Bahadur Thapa, Jayanta Chand, Sushil Kumar Shrestha, Bhashkar Bhadra, Kunti Kumari Shahi and Bhakta Bahadur BK Khapangi jointly registered the amendment proposal in the parliament.
The RPP has registered the proposal in the mean time when the Election Commission removed the provision stating that the provision in the party statue contradicts with the constitutional provision.
In the amendment proposal, the party has sought to amend the Article 4.1 of the Constitution, which defines Nepal as a nation, to replace the “secular” with “a Sanatan Hindu nation with full religious freedom.”
