Kathmandu, Nepal, March 10, 2020: President Bidhya Devi Bhandari likely to go neighboring Bangladesh at the end of this month to participate in the 'Mujib Year' event set to mark the birth centenary of the country's founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Though the Sital Niwas, the office of the president, has not confirmed about the visit, it is likely that president Bhandari will leave for Bangladesh on March 21 for a three day office visit at the invitation of her Bangladeshi counterpart Mohammad Abdul Hamid.
It is said that Bangladesh has already sent an invitation letter to the president Bhandari with the offer to address the Bangladeshi parliament along with her former Indian counterpart Pranab Mukherjee. According to the reports, President Bhandari and Indian former president Mukherjee would address a special Parliament session of Banghaldesh on March 22 and 23.
It would probably be the first stance to the president Bhandari to address the foreign parliament and third instance to the Bangladesh. Foreign dignitaries would address Bangladesh Parliament since 1972 and 1974 when the then Indian president VV Giri and erstwhile Yugoslavia’s president Josip Broz Tito spoke in the House of Bangladesh.
It is said that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also invited to take part in the inauguration even of the 'Mujib Year' slated for March 17. The Bangladesh government has already set to observe 'Mujib Year’ (Mujib Borsho) from March 2020 to March 2021 across the globe.
