Kathmandu, Nepal: The government has announced the date to hold the local level election. A cabinet meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence at Baluwatar on Monday evening decided to hold the local polls across the country in one phase on May 14.
The government has fixed the date following the consultation with the office bearers of the Election Commission (EC). The date on May 14 was recommended by the EC.
With the announcement of the date for the local level elections, the people in general will be able to choose their representatives after 19 years to run the local bodies.
In 1997 Nepali people had last voted for electing their representatives in the local bodies. Since then no local election was held because of the Maoist insurgency and political instability.
