Kathmandu, Nepal, March 1, 2022: Nepali Congress (NC) has thanked the main opposition CPN UML claiming that has also supported to ratify the US-funded Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) compact agreement from the parliament.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Monday, NC Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat said ‘the MCC was ratified through parliament with the support of the main opposition party CPN-UML. As the UML informally assisted to rectify the MCC, I would like to express thanks for the support.
The lawmakers, who had been protesting in the parliament with other demands, had neither voted in favor of the MCC nor obstructed to endorse it from the parliament. The UML said that it would make public its official views by Tuesday regarding the endorsement of the MCC form the parliament.
As the MCC project is purely development assistance, there is no necessary to have a negative attitude toward the grant agreement, Dr. Mahat said during the press conference even expressing his commitment to move forward the MCC by resolving the misconceptions on it.
