Toronto, Canada: Jagan Sapkota has been elected as the new President of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Canada for the 2025–2027 term, securing 1,532 votes in the election held earlier today.

The presidential race featured five candidates. Among them, Chanda Adhikari received 1,357 votes, Kiroj Shrestha garnered 848 votes, Vidya Bhushan Karki received 1,108 votes, and Suraj Adhikari secured just 283 votes.

Out of 6,015 registered voters, 5,179 participated in the voting process.

Sharmila Ranabhat has been elected as General Secretary. The three Vice Presidents elected from different regions are Hari Barakoti (Atlantic), Pratik Bhandari (Central), and Bishal Thapa (Western).

Indira Rijal has been elected Treasurer, with G.R. Bhandari as Deputy Treasurer. Bijay Lamsal was elected as Secretary, and Hemraj Kafle will serve as the Youth Coordinator.

The newly elected ICC Members include Kamal Bhattarai, Bishal Ghimire, Pita Paudel, Pitambar Bhattarai, and Dinesh Ghimire.

Regional members elected include:

  • Mississauga: Tilaram Sapkota, Tika Pahari
  • Brampton: Sita Thada Rana, Sagar Gurung, Ram Maya Ghimire

Senior Leadership Elected Unopposed After Consensus

A consensus was reached for two top posts. Santosh Dahal, Prajapati Sapkota, and Dr. Punyasagar Marhatta were unanimously elected as Senior Vice Presidents, while Samikshya Karki and Geeta Dawadi Dhakal were elected as Women Vice Presidents during a general meeting held Saturday in Scarborough.

This consensus resolved internal disagreements, resulting in the unanimous selection of all five candidates across the two posts.

Janaki Pandit (Federal Government Liaison Vice President) and Swikriti Khadka (Youth Coordinator – Women) were elected unopposed, as they were the sole candidates for their respective positions.
