Kathmandu, Nepal, April 19, 2021: The government has decided to prorogue the ongoing winter session of the federal parliament effective from 1:00 pm on Monday.
A ‘emergency’ cabinet meeting called by the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli's at his Official Residence in Baluwatar on Monday morning made the decision to this effect.
The winter session of the parliament is prorogued at the time when political parties, particularly the ruling ally CPN Maoist Center and the dissident faction of the ruling UML led by Madhav Kumar Nepal had been trying to register no-confidence motion against of the government to form a coalition government by taking into confidence the main opposition Nepali Congress.
Though the constitutional provision has allowed the government to recommend the president to prorogue and call the meeting of the federal parliament, the recent one decision to prorogue the winter session of the parliament is taken meaningfully from different sectors. Next meeting of the federal parliament was called for Tuesday.
